t5 auto clicking under acceleration?

Hi iv'e just noticed a nasty sounding clicking noise on my 2005 auto t5.its there on idle and it increases in speed and volume with acceleration. the local garage is at a complete loss as to what it is.any ideas would be gratefully received.
