lost key, have complete parts car...

Post by capecodbuilder »

What would need to be swapped over to avoid a trip to the dealer...I have two 99's. an s70 awd and a v70xc...the v70 is a parts car. I know the key has a chip. I swapped out the ignition and the transponder ring and had the no start issue...then read about the immobilizer module that is right there on the steering column... I am going to swap that as well but am wondering if I am going to need the ecu as well and if this is going to work even with all of that stuff swapped...
any help is really appreciated. Thanks a million!

Seems to me that the more stuff you switch, the more apt you are to have a component which won't match the vin, and thus be disabled by its ability to match the rest of the vehicle. I think if you move the ecu, you will need to move everything else which has to match it. I have found the people, Dave and Brian, at Trans Atlantic Motors willing to give advice, you also might want to ask Nick at Hyannis Foreign Auto Repair...
I didn't know the key for these cars has a chip.
Hope this helps, Hank

The '99's on up get pretty fancy with everything being "married" to everything else.
You'll probably save a pile of time, effort and hassle just paying for a new key.
It IS worth calling around to more than one dealer and finding the best price.

I forgot to post the results of my efforts. on the 99 all that seems to be "married" is the ecu, immobilizer module (bottom of steering column), immobilizer ring (around the ignition), the ignition and key. Now thats a marriage!
