I have had my V70 for about 8 years now and it has always startred v well. However for the last 6 months or so it has giving me terrible problems when starting. It turns over like crazy, eventually fires and then just dies. I can be trying to start it like this 10 or more times until it eventually starts. Sometimes it wont start and I roll it down the hill that I live on to get it started. Once it has warmed up and i turn the car off and then I start it up again it will then start up immediately.
The car has done 190,000 miles. I was advised that it must be my injectors. I have had these reconditioned last week and still the same problem - no difference at all - still big problems starting in a morning.
Is it my glow plugs? The glow plug light does not come on - is that because it is summer and the glow plugs sense the temp and so dont come on? Should the glow plug light come on even in summer? Is there a way I can test the glow plugs?
Any help would be appreciated as I am pulling my hair out.

no didnt think of that. I think it is getting plenty of fuel through as when it does eventually start there is loads of smoke which i presume is excess fuel that isfrom all my tries at starting it. Am i talking rubbish??
A car with a diesel engine needs special care wih the fuel filters. They should be changed on a regular basis. Diesel fuel circulates back and forth constantly between the tank and the engine, and the filters get extra duty, with wax and other contaminants. One thing you will notice with filters that should be replaced is reduced power. As JDA2000 suggests, test the pressure of your fuel pump.
