front passenger door lock immediately pops back up again

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

front passenger door lock immediately pops back up again

Post by jeffers »

When locking the doors using any method (remotes, either armrest, key on driver's side), all doors do indeed lock, but the front passenger door lock immediately pops back up again - down-up, down-up each time I press "Lock". If I press Lock over and over again, it sometimes will eventually stay locked, but most often, I have to depress the lock manually. Just in case it would help, I checked the related fuses and they seemed fine.
Do I need a new door lock? Can I order it on ebay and replace it by myself? How? thanks a millions

I'm not a mechanic, but your right it's not an electrical problem sense the system has power to all of the components. I wonder if it could be the actuator in the passenger door that is at fault. Even if your a DIY'er you could have a shop take a look and give you an estimate and a diagnosis.

Hopefully, a tech type will chime in here and give you a better idea as to what else it could be.

My drivers door lock is flaky. FYI, I've already contacted my closest dealership and that want CAD$350 to repair. Or CAD $172 for just the part.

If you are intending to replace yourself, you'll need a drill to remove the rivet that holds the window rail & some rivets and a rivet gun to replace the rail back in, amongst some other tools

I had the same problem with my 01 S80. It ended up being the ignition lock / column. I moved the key in and out of the ignition a few times and heard it "click" into the correct position (key removed) and everything was fine. I guess it thought the key was still in the ignition therefor not allowing the doors to lock.
