No Power In 2nd

'85 245 DL, 110K

The car starts fine, but once it shifts into 2nd there is no power at all. I continued to step on the gas but the RPMs didn't seem to go up and it felt like it was choking or bogged down. I took my foot off the gas completely and while it was in 1st everything seemed fine.

I'm a complete novice so I apologize if my account isn't descriptive.

Sounds to me like a clogged cat. converter,but it must be tested.
