1998 s70 replacement engine with 119,000 miles. Consistently reading code po172. To those of you who may be familiar with this, do you any suggestions? I appreciate your input.

I am trying to find that code but I am having a hard time. When you scanned the computer and that code came up, did the reader give you a description of what the code meant?

Most often, this code is caused by a vacuum leak. Look at all hoses into the intake manifold - starting with the one connecting into the passenger side of the manifold.

If it is that one, space in there's real tight. This is how I went about fixing it.

Yes. The description reads Sys Too Rich, Bank 1. Had gasket leak repaired, but code consistent. Any idea?? Thanks!!

Will ask to take a closer look at the vacuum hoses, although mechanic says he already checked. Any other possibles?
And, most importantly, is this causing damage and/or is the car safe to drive?

99 times out of 100 it is the vacuum elbow from the PCV at the US passenger's side of the intake manifold that was shown previously.

It is a pure SOB to get to due to limited access so as to make the repair since it is crammed in so close to the alternator.

Long story short it should be a cheap repair that is a bit of a pr!ck to get to.
