Upper engine mount bushing removal
Winter is coming and im starting my pre-winter maintenance...Just wondering if anyone has tried to replace just the bushing on the top of the motor ($13) rather than the entire unit ($60). Like many here, on a budget and trying to save some $. Any thoughts?

Take my word for it - replace the whole unit. $47 is a good price to pay to not have to go through trying to get a new bushing into that mount. Unless you have a press, you're also going to spend $10 in parts to attempt to make the "tools" needed to get the bushing in there.

It's not impossible without a press by any means but does require some make shift tools. Check this out.

Also if you're creative and have a few odds n ends around you can invent your own tool - I'll put up a picture of mine later.

I just replaced mine. Cost around $6.50 from Groton. Instructions on how to carry this out are as follows:
The bush is made of a plastic outer ring with a inner rubber ring. Take note of the direction and offset of the old bush. To remove the bush use a hacksaw blade in a hand holder (these are available at hardware stores) and carefully cut through the rubber & plastic to reach the metal housing, then remove it. Some mallett work with an appropriately sized socket may be called for, making sure to support the hole between two pieces of soft wood then hit it out.
Now for the tricky part. Chamfer the edge of the new bush to a 30 degree angle with a grinder wheel or hand grinder. Take about 1/8 inch off, no more. This allows you to press it in without tearing it. Lubricate the chamfered edge of the bush and the whole surface of the bush with vaseline or petroleum jelly. Place a number of appropriately sized washers (with a hole large enough to clear the centre shaft of the bushing) over the bushing, ensuring they equal or are greater in height than the centre bore of the bush. On the other side use two pieces of wood on each side of the hole. Insert this into your vice's jaw (this can be a bit tricky) then gently squeeze it, making sure it is perfectly centred b/w the vice's jaws. Keep squeezing with the vice's handle until it is on all the way. This may take a couple of tries as mine sipped off the first two times.
Takes about 45 mins. Enjoy!!

The above instruction was made on the assumption you have removed the arm from the vehicle. Remove the aircleaner box then remove two 14mm bolts and one 13mm nut to remove this engine mount arm. There are some brackets holding the cam & crank sensors attached to one of the 14mm bolts.

Good stuff, thanks for posting.....I dont think this is in the repair database, we shuold have it listed in there.... I think I might try a different approach first, see how it goes. Ill heat the metal in an oven and freeze the bushing. Either way ill post the results and try and take pics. Im not too good in the latter I have to admit.
