Help in caring for 01 V70 T5

Post by trener1 »

I just bought a 2001 V70 T5 with about 128k miles on it.
Just want some general advice on how to best take care of it so it lasts for another 100k, any ideas or tips are welcome.

Trans oil is very important--either flush it or drain / fill with the proper fluid (Mobil 3309, also sold at Volvo dealers for markup prices or at Toyota dealers at Type IV). Other than that just basic maintenance. Regular oil changes, using synthetic (turbo!), sparks every 35k & replace anything that wears out.

Pay close attention to the front suspension. Worn control arm bushings, sway bar links, upper strut bushings, front inner and outer steering rods are all the norm. Most of these will lead to irregular tire wear. Regular oil changes is probably the most important thing. Sludge buildup is easily noticed from looking at the underside of the oil filler cap.

Thanks.
As far as oil changes go, do you need to go somewhere that knows Volvo's or will any old neighborhood place do?.

the oil change thing you should be able to do yourself, if not then find an indie volvo shop and avoid the Jiffy lubes.
