2004 AWD issues

Well I just baught a 2004 XC90 2.5 AWD for my wife. Unfortunetely I got a 2WD. I get a anti-skid service message and no AWD. I am trying to narrow what is the issue. mechanical or electrical? I put the car on a lift with all four tires off the ground. with the car in park and off, I can spin the driveshaft freely. Is this how it is suppose to be? The two front tires are still linked together. Any and all help is welcomed. Thanks in advance.
