rear fog light won't shut off

Post by megan »

Hello,
I have a 2006 V50 wagon, which unfortunately, has been acting a little strange lately. Last night, the rear fog light turned itself on and refused to shut off, even when I turned off the car and removed the key. Over the summer, the air conditioning worked intermittantly, and would cut out randomly (the blower would continue, however), then would start up again. My mechanic wasn't sure what was going on with the AC, but now I'm wondering if the fog light situation is a sign of a larger problem. I do know that the previous owner had the computer system replaced. Any thoughts? I have an appointment next week to get it checked out. Until then, I'm keeping a wrench in the car so I can disengage the battery if needed to avoid running it down! Thanks.

Welcome to Matthew's Volvo Site.

A temporary solution to avoid disconnecting the battery, which can affect the computer, is to remove the bulb from the fog light.

One major problem with modern cars is the number of bits that are interlinked by the computer(s).

The AC problem could be a low refrigerant charge. Have you had this checked?

Thanks, Bill! Good call with removing the light, a simple and elegant solution. I'll follow up on the AC.
