Hey guys,
Just a quick question really. I'm thinking about turbo oil cooler lines for my S70. Is this a part you would steer clear of aftermarket parts? Pt. numbers: 3528201 & 3528207
For example, FCP has both aftermarket lines for $85.00 each. It'd save me about $50 (If I were to buy both), but I won't even consider it if this is a part I should go Genuine Volvo on.
Thanks in advance for any input.
By the way, there is a shop in B.C. that said they had used lines, $65 each. Used turbo oil cooler lines? I've been advised by an acquaintance to not buy them used - which makes sense to me.

It's such a pain to fix that I wouldn't. Do it right (OEM), and never have to do it again.

If the hoses meet or exceed OEM standards then they are fine. Volvo cooler hoses are not specifically made for Volvo but for the application in which they are being used. Knowing this you can buy the same hose elsewhere without the Volvo mark-up. The only thing I'd use a used hose for is a pea shooter. FCP Groton sould be able to give you the technical information you need to make an educated decision.

Great - thanks for the helpful suggestions!
I think I'm just gonna go for the OEM's from FCP. Looking for the cheapest place, FCP so far.
PS. I know there are wiring diagrams on this site (right?) - are there diagrams for..systems, for example; I'm looking for a picture/diagram of where these two hoses (inlet/outlet) start and end.

They go from the oil thermostat right in front of your engine mount on the right side up to the radiator. You'll have to peel back/remove the passenger side fender liner to get at them.
I paid someone else to do it

Okay,
My FCP order came today, containing both Turbo Oil Cooler lines. And I'm wondering if anybody has a great thread, or set of pictures, or even better a video link for the process of replacing them?...
I have read all the threads on this site that pertained to these oil cooler lines, and also a posted link to another site where somebody had replaced one of them (not sure if upper or lower, inlet or outlet) and they were very good at taking me from clueless to ...where I'm at now
I realized as I looked at the ends of the lines, I had no idea how they are implemented. Do I need a special type of crimper to put those clamp ends on to where they go? That sort of question...(I don't get how they are used. do they slide on, crimp, "pop" -
)
I realize, also, that I'm gonna have to get that Haynes manual now. I did plan on getting it cause I need the base knowledge it may provide me with for my repairs. But if somebody could help out maybe by explaining the things you think a novice will have problems with, or problems understanding, that would be a great help.
Probably gonna get at this around the same time as the PCV job - it came with the same order - in the next 2 weeks (being conservative). Stay away Snow!
Thanks for any input.
You guys are the best!

I'm posting a link to some pictures that may help. I've posted these before on several threads, so you may have seen them already. http://picasaweb.google.com/11338459745 ... oolerLines#LamboSE5 wrote:Okay,

There are some good threads and some fairly recent ones. Here is one. https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums ... =1&t=32671. This will give you some tips on getting to the end of the lines that go to the engine.
As far as the ends of the lines that go to the radiator, use some kind of a tool (like needle nose pliers) that will gently pull apart the sides of the old clamps on the ends about 1/4 inch, then slide them away from the radiator towards the engine. Don't spread them far enough to pull them off perpendicularly to the lines. One of my pictures shows the clamps- if yours a different this doesn't apply. The lines themselves just pull out of the radiator receptacles. Practice on the old line clamps, before spreading the new ones. The new lines should come with O rings on both ends- different types.

I had just finished searching google for more help/explanation on this job. I found the thread you posted above, and I had bookmarked the link to your picture(s) post about a week ago when I found them, haha.
I'm hoping when I get in there, it'll make more sense but yea, those hose ends seem weird...new to me.
Anyway, I ordered a Haynes Manual for my car the other day from FCP - do you (does anybody) know if they cover these oil cooler lines+replacement?
Also I have a copy of VADIS for volvo that I recently borrowed - navigating it is difficult though. If anybody knows the route/path within VADIS (2005 I think) that'll lead me to "oil cooler lines" replacement. That would be a huge help as well.
Thanks guys!!

Hey.
So, my friend (mechanic) had a brief look under the hood today. And after talking about some things and pointing things out, he came to the conclusion that I got the wrong 'lines'.
Apparently I bought "Oil Cooler lines". And I was meant to get "Turbo oil lines". I'm pretty frustrated now because I don't know what lines he's talking about and what I need to get now. I had bought exactly what he described, at the same price point he said they'd be, and apparently they're not right.
Does anybody know what (turbo) hoses/lines he is talking about? Apparently it's neither of the two I listed (and bought) above in my first or second post - so you can exclude those.
I'd really appreciate some help on this one.
Thanks,
J
