V-70 Door Panel Removal

Post by Sven98 »

My '98 V-70 driver's door lock button is protruding through the door tilted. I assume a screw holding it in place has come out. I need to remove the door panel to investigate & repair. I don't have a manual. Does anybody know the steps for removing the door panel. I've read in previous posts that there are anywhere from 1 to 6 screws holding the panel in place. How many are there, where are they, what's the procedure? :?

It's been a while since I did this, but here is what a I remember.
The 850 has screws around the bottom of the panel. The 70 series has the conventional hidden press fit plastic thingys.

Start by finding the little square cover in the well where you grab the door to pull it closed. Pry it out and remove the torx screw under it.

Pry off the triangular plastic trim piece above the panel at the front of the window.

Next, carefully pry out the bottom of the panel to release the press fit attachments. A 2 or 3" putty knife helps distribute the pressure. Tape the end of it so it doesn't scratch the door.

Pull out on the door latch and pull out the bottom of the panel until you can let it through the panel.

Now lift the panel vertically to free it at the top where it has a lip that holds it against the glass. If I haven't forgotten something it should be off.
There are several wiring connectors to release if you want to set it aside. Have a box or something handy to set it on so it doesn't hang while you do this. Good luck.

Thanks. This worked perfectly and I learned that the wire which the knob slips over simply was bent. Straightening it solved the problem. Total time of repair including R&R...20 minutes. :D
