Brake booster

Brake booster

question about brake booster. Booster has always gave a sound of air releasing when letting off brake pedal but now have a constant sound of air leaking. It will actually began to whistle constantly until you depress the pedal. I pulled back the boot covering the operating rod and it is coming from where the rod goes into the cylinder, i would think a bad seal. Question is does this mean the booster is toast or is there anything else to do or check. The brake lights were on continously until I got under the dash and played with the pedal. The cruise suddenly stopped working at the same time not sure if its related, possibly with the way the cruise disengages when touching the brake pedal? Help would be appreciated

Mine had a similar sucking sound comming from the brake peddle area, also the electric vacum pump was running alot. I didn't have a problem with the brake lights or cruise. The solution for me was a new brake booster. I think this problem is pretty common. I couldn't find a remanufactured at the time mine went out, however, I've heard they are available now.
