oil light flickering

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

oil light flickering

Post by oinkmaster »

I have a 2000 S80t with 124000 miles. My oil light started flickering at an idol, it flicks for just a second. Any way to check the actual pressure? I dont hear any valve noise or anything. The sensors wires look Ok. where to look after this? Is this a DIY fix? I have several other failure flashes occasionaly, could this be an electrical problem?
Thanks Joe

Theres a series of orings in the sump that perish, allow air into the oil system and cause this exact problem. Most likely thats what you need to replace. The parts are only about $20 + the anerobic sealant (p/n 30750783
) but its time consuming to do it. Heres a guide on how to replace them http://www.volvoforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1451
IPD wrote:One way to test for this issue is run the engine until warm, let it idle for 2 minutes then turn off the engine.Pull the dipstick and wipe it clean. Reinsert into the engine and then inspect the oil on the dipstick as you remove it. If you see a considerable amount of bubbles in the oil that is on the end of the dipstick it's likely that the seasl are failing and allowing air to be drawn into the system.
