Good Evening,
I'm wondering if someone can help me identify what part this is and/or offer suggestions for repair. The other night I backed over a small branch which popped the gas line out of a part I have yet to be able to identify. I'm hoping it's just a matter of loosening some bolts and putting the tube back in but... it's a gas line so caution wins. The part of the line that came out is the short piece that runs to the fuel filter. I've attached a few pics. Thanks for any help!
George

Thanks for the reply... unfortunately I can circle my entire town walking in about 2 hours. This is more of an 'I need the car to fix the car' type situation. There's a JY ~50mi away.

Whatever the part is, the Fuel Pressure Regulator is attached to it and sits on top. It makes absolutely no sense to me why a replacement part does not exist? No mention of it in Haynes either. The short line (abt 6-8 inches) that goes from the fuel filter into whatever this black plastic housing mystery part is under the FPR has snapped at the housing. I'm attaching more pics and hopefully someone can tell me what to tell the junkyard to pull, and/or a way to replace this thing. I'm not going to attempt to disconnect anything until I know what it is. Thanks for any help!

I haven't looked at mine in about 6 months, but that part in the picture looks similar to the roll-over valve on my '97 855 GLT. I read that the roll-over valve is supposed to cut off the flow of fuel to the engine if the car rolls over in an accident, etc. Could this be your part? Let me know...

Thank you! I'm not sure... I haven't come across anything that mentioned roll-over valve but I will def search online. I would think if that were the part, then Haynes or something somewhere would say to disconnect the FPR from the roll-over valve housing or some such. But notta. I didn't measure but the distance between this part and the fuel filter has to be less than a foot... probably 8 inches. I really need to get this thing fixed. Are there any other good Volvo forums I could post to with someone who might know?
Cheers

Howdy;
Sorry to hear about your trouble! I have a 1993 850, and was having some fuel line problems, myself, a while ago. Here's the thing: MY fuel line does NOT have the little thingy in your pictures! Mine is just a straight shot back to the fuel filter, BUT, in my trunk, for unknown reasons, there was a spare fuel line. Weird. And that one DID have the thing from your picture, and here's why I'm telling this story: I didn't know what it was, either, and still don't, but when I capped one end of the (spare) line with my thumb, and blew into the other end, AIR CAME OUT OF THAT PLASTIC THING. In other words, I'm wondering if there's not some other part that was on there?
I'm not trying to make the situation more panicky, but I thought I'd better share that, because my impression based on my experience is that if you just reconnected the fuel line, it may just spew fuel.
The layout of my personal fuel line (back of car to front) is: Fuel filter--then STRAIGHT fuel line (no attachments) all the way under the entire car, up to the firewall area--THEN there's some kind of round thing on there (that may be the "fuel regulator" someone mentioned?)--then the rest of the way up to the hard lines that go to the fuel rail and injectors.
I know this isn't any actual help, as such; just trying to help avoid making the situation worse, if possible...
Good luck!
RW

Thank you RW! Actually if I look inside the line where it broke off, I can see the other end of the plastic thing so i'm fairly certain there is no other piece. The mystery continues...

When I was researching the roll over valve to try to find the part numbers for two of the rubber coupling hoses that connect to it, I read that the roll over valve was required in California at one point but not the other 49 states. My '97 GLT was originally sold in Delaware but it definitely has a roll over valve... it's confusing! Have you looked at the vacuum line routing diagram under the hood of your car? It may show the roll over valve.
