power window messed up.

Post by bigcfromcinci »

Hey guys,
Have a friend that has a 93 945.... Here's his post on another forum we both frequent.

This is what I have in my 1993 Volvo 945 as far as a power window setup, a riveted in motor.

The problem is that the window goes down just fine but attempting to raise it causes a lot of rhythmic thumping and commotion in the door and hand pressure is needed to raise the window. My son was trained not to lower the window but some dorkhead friend of his didn't listen and ran the window all of the way down to where I couldn't grab it and help it raise. So, apart she came.

The motor seems tight to the door via the rivets.

Everything I can see of what I'll call the fan gear on the window assembly looks fine, nothing stripped or damaged. The only part that I can't see is inside the bottom half of the motor assembly, I assume there is a meshing pinion gear of some kind in there working via the motor? When I push up manually on the bottom of the window, it moves slightly until it loads the motor assembly, which flexes slightly away from the door. So the pinion inside the motor doesn't seem to be slipping or missing teeth.

I tried plugging the blue connector for the drivers side window back in to raise the window in ignition accessory position with some help and I got nothing, the assembly must get power some other way. I hate to plug all the connectors back in again to get power to the window but it appears that I have to.

Based on the above, does anyone have any ideas on what is wrong here?

You will find that there are supposed to be these round red curved spring washers that go behind the clips that attach the window to the regulator. These washers break and fall into the bottom of the door. When these washers are missing the regulator arms don't move smoothly in the guides when the window goes up and down. Replace these broken washers and it should fix the problem. Or this is what I found when I replaced the rear power window regulators including motors on my 88 760 with some from a 89 740.

EDIT: The part number for the red plastic washer is 1334889 (on my 88 760) and six of them are required for each door.
