Just got done replacing the timing belt, cam seals, water pump, PCV system, etc in my 2000 volvo s80. After I put the timing belt on, I cranked the engine by hand almost 2 turns, then it stops just before completing the second turn. I'm guessing this means the valves are hitting the pistons? So, how do I retime this thing?
Not sure what went wrong, I used a cam locking tool, marked up the gears and belt. Maybe the variable timing cam messed me up, or something slipped when I wasn't looking. Took me something like 2 weeks to get to this point (not having to right tools, broken bolts, work, etc). This has been a big PIA.
Think I messed up the timing, how to retime?
Nevermind. It stopped because I screwed in a damper bolt without the damper on to use as a counterhold, and the bolt stuck out of the crank sprocket far enough to hit a part of the block sticking out. All's good
