I have cleaned the DDM with no change , my drivers window works when it wants to. All other switches in the DDM work fine. The car was at dealership for this problem in 2007 , diagnosis was "intermittent fault with driver's window motor". We denied the repair which was $550 , now in 2010 they want $1300 to repair. If it works occasionally , how can it not be the switch ? I have found regulators with motor for $265 , motors for $86 , and DDM's for $316.
Not sure where to start , can the motor be replaced without removing the regulator ?
Can I put a volt meter on the motor wires and see if the switch is sending current to the motor ?
Can you purchase a new circuit pressure switch only for the top of the DDM ?
Does anyone have pics of where the rivets are on the regulator ?
Help ......
Driver's Window
DDM fail frequently, and cleaning will not fix a failing one. So buy a new one online and start there. Much cheaper and easier to replace than the other items. That's where I would start.
Have you checked the wiring for broken/chafed wires at the hinge of the door.

I agree with JDA to check the wiring at the bend in the door. Also if you change the DDM it may have to be programmed by the dealer to work with your car. I have changed these and they are hit and miss, i've seen some work and some not. I've probably got all of the parts you might need if you are interested (not sure on the DDM and it would be charcoal if I have it). I might even be interested in shipping you these on the merit system (presuming we agree on price and if you pay for shipping) so you could see what you need and what you don't. You can pm me through the site here if interested.
Checked wires in boot across hinge area , all perfect and clean. I can hear the window attempt to go up even while it is up all ready when the switch is pulled up , it just won't go down but once a blue moon. Sounds like the switch to me.

Perhaps there is a way to circumvent the switch to prove that it is indeed your problem. However, I do not have that knowledge but someone here might. I would hate to see you spend $250 and your problem not be solved. If the car was from the early 90's or earlier then the circuit would be straight forward, but I get the feeling that there are transistors involved.

J nothing against you, but there has to be a way for us to either prove or disprove that the switch is the cause of the problem. Also there are no promises at the dealer they could say well it is [del]probably[/del] the switch so we will replace that. Then a couple of days later when the window fails you take it back to the dealer and then they want to replace the motor because it is [del]probably[/del] the motor. Dealerships get paid to replace parts (labor plus the price of materials) and not proper diagnosis (labor). Now if you can find an honest mechanic at the dealer (as they are likely to have more advanced diagnostic tools) or an independent (who lives off their reputation) then they will be able to help you out. Unfortunately, I have not had to deal with this problem so I do not know how to troubleshoot the associated components. I do think in the absence of any way to troubleshoot and unwillingness to give the dealer money that based on the replies the switch is a better than even bet.
