Coolant leak

Post by jack-of-all »

I have a 2002 XC70. I have been trying to correct a coolant leak. leak was coming from coolant resovoir, but stopped when I replaced crimp clamp on small hose that leads from top of resovoir to radiator. Now leak is coming other end of that hose where crimp clamp has not been replace and appears impossible to get to. I bought new after market radiator cap, but same problem exists. Is here a way to replace this clamp with out dropping radiator ? Any advice would be most welcome. I have found this forum most useful.

Additional info: coolant was only leaing before when car was stopped, seems to be worse when unlevel. Car has 130000 miles and hoses appear to be in good shape.

Hose my look good but it is probably deteriorated on the inside and leaking through to the nylon reinforcement which is allowing to to weep at both ends. Buy a new hose (hoses as is likely that most of them are probably in a similar state) and spend the afternoon replacing them. This is one of the things that will cost you some $$ now but will save you a tow bill and a possible trip to a mechanic later.

I think I wrote off the radiator cap too soon. System has stopped leaking from crimp clamp. Wish me luck. I would rather not drop radiator to do a single hose clamp...warm weather and new hoses would make it more worth while. Though it could be just talking to her sweetly and telling her she's pretty. My wife asks "why do I have such a high maintainance car"; and I'll say "not soo loud she'll hear you."
