Fuel Pressure Regulator Install
Fuel Pressure Regulator Install
My 02 s40 is suffering what seems to be the characteristics of a failing fuel pressure regulator -- long cranking time and having to pump gas pedal to start. What's involved with installing a new one? Anyone have a schematic for installing one of these? Is it as simple as removing the old one and popping the new one on, or is it more involved than that? I am a novice mechanic (at best). Thanks.
In digging through other websites, I found this awesome link detailing the fuel pressure regulator installation (for an '01) step-by-step:

I'll probably still be taking it to a mechanic, though. I'm a bit paranoid when it comes to working with fuel line issues.

Had a mechanic buddy install the new FPR today and it's running GREAT. He followed the directions from the above link. Only thing we forgot to do was release the fuel pressure before disconnecting the fuel line from the top of the FPR -- gas shot out halfway up the windshield. Had to run the car through the car wash (on a rainy day)to get the fuel off the windshield and wipers. All in all, it went well. Took about a half-hour. Car starts right up now and idles smoother.
