Post by koffinb »

hey guys..i'm wondering if there were any known problems to look out for in the 03 s60 2.4t...i found one with about 107k i have to check and see if timing belt was done but i'm pretty sure it was. Is the tranny the same as the 01 v70 t5?? those trannies are hprrible..amy advice would be great. thanks in advance.

03's don't have any major issues like the MY01 and 02 cars. T-belt should be done or should have been done. At 100k + you are probably going to find or going to experience soon some wear issues such as engine mounts and misc. suspension parts that will need replaced. No big deal really. This car will be as good as its been treated. Take it for an extended drive, get its service history and get it inspected if possible by someone with knowledge of Volvo's. I'm sure i've missed some things, but there are several other "purchase" post on the forum that you can read that will point out some other areas of emphasis for you. Good luck.

Basically same tranny, but the 03 didn't come with the stop neutral function that contributed to or caused many of the 01 and 02 tranny failures. There may be some other subtle differences that I'm missing, but nonetheless the 03 doesn't fail as often as the earlier years.
