Turbo Trouble?

Post by ronnieleetwist »

1995 850 Turbo Wagon . 230k... Do a lot of work on this car to keep it running like a champ! LOVE this car. Installed a new PNP last week, which solved my cold shifting problem... Got out on the Interstate and whomped on it. Turbo guage pegged out and car started to stumble. Once turbo guage came down car runs fine. No codes came up over this. No oil leaks or vacume leaks that I can see. Could turbo just need cleanout? Any suggestions?

Depending upon the stumble under high load it would be a fuel delivery issue or a leaking head gasket.

Did you notice any smoke coming out the back while whomping it?

no smoke, so I doubt it's a head gasket problem because it runs balls on strong otherwise. And strong up until it tops out on the turbo boost gauge

Boost does funny things to a gasket. But fuel delivery or ignition are most likely if the only issue is top end.
Check the performance of both systems and let us know.

You should also confirm how the boost control solenoid is working with a known good boost gauge. If you went into overboost the BCS could be failing/failed

I had trouble with the gap on my spark plugs under high boost pressure.

What are yours gapped at/have they been replaced recently?

This. What kind of plugs and did you check the gap prior to installing?
