Ok so my transmission is done. Volspec in Escondido has determined that the signal from my transmission is conflicting with the signal from the motor, giving me the 3-2-2 code (incorrect gear ratio) and causing the engine to misfire and the tach to read incorrectly. I tried all the other stuff, like PNP switch new fluid etc. and it didn't help. It is wierd though, because nobody else has ever got the same symptom as me with the tach reading incorrectly.
Anyways. I have a spare transmission out of a 94 850 turbo and I was wondering if they are all the same or am I screwed if the transmission is an early 94 tranny with a late 94 motor or something screwey like that. If so how do I check it.
Also the only thing I can think that I need to buy is:
Torque converter bolts
Flywheel bolts
Rear main seal
DEX III Fluid - 16 qts I believe.
I am going to drop the subframe instead of pulling the motor - seems easier for this job
I am nervous to do the job because I have always been a motor up and out kind of guy, but It just seems more practical to drop the subframe.
Any pointers would be awesome! thanks!

Trannies should be exactly the same.
There were differences - some early '94's used different solenoids than the later 94's, but it will not concern you in the swapping transmissions process. You may have had one of those ones in your car actually; the earlier transmissions tend to die a whole lot more.
While you're at it, get some new O-rings for the cooler lines, subframe mounts to put in there while it's loose; maybe the lower 2 engine mounts (the hydraulic ones) if they look worn. My subframe mounts are starting to get a bit worn on my 98.

You are buying too much AFT unless you planed to flush it immediately after replacing it. The system capacity is a fuzz under 11 quarts including the torque converter.
You will need to figure out a method to suspend the engine while you drop the transmission. I spent quite a bit of time at Lowes dreaming up a solution but it worked just fine.
Just avoid hitting your head on the 4x4 when you crawl out from under the car.

Thanks for the quick responses, you guys are awesome!
I noticed in this picture that your struts are still bolted in, and the wheels are on the ground. I thought for some reason the suspension had to come with the subframe, or atleast some of it.

You can leave the struts in but the axles need to be removed from the transmission to get it out. Once you remove the nuts on the ends of the axles at the hub you can swing the suspension out of the way once the axle clears the steering knuckle.
The picture is deceptive - the car was jacked up and on jack stands at that point.
