2005 2.5T AWD XC90 MPG drop
2005 2.5T AWD XC90 MPG drop
Car has 80,000 miles is well maintained, 3,000 mi. oil changes, good tires. MPG dropped from 24+/- to 18 (done with calculator not car computer.) PCV checked with new timing belt, tune-up 6 months ago. Run a tank of mid-grade or premium every 4th or 5th tank and get not much if any improvement in MPG. AWD does not seem to be working. Any suggestions for either dysfunction?
I would be mostly worried about that one... Can you get all four wheels up and see if the AWD is going or not? If something is wrong with it I would assume that it would add to rolling resistance and your MPG would plummet. I had a subaru AWD a while back that had U-joints start to fail and my MPG dropped sharply.shannons wrote: AWD does not seem to be working.

Have you had your bevel fluid checked? That's what the AWD uses.
Check out this post. It's for changing the fluid on another model. Not sure if it's the same for XC90's
