Weird electrical problems

Post by angelglo »

I have a 2000 S80 non turbo. I bought it about 4 months ago. It ran fine when i bought it. a month into ownership, the brake light malfunction started to come on. My sister had her car stolen so i lent her the car for about 3 months. She drove the car around though it needed brakes. I got the car back and before even driving it, i changed the brakes and cleared the brake repair message. after i cleared it, it seemed to do what seems to be common and it went into limp mode and tranny service light came on with codes p1618 and p0751. after i clear is, it drives fine but it comes back on again after driving it for a while. but those are different issues.

i notice that the homelink garage door opener wont work. my vanity mirror lights also are not working along with the dome light that turns on with the push botton. The light turns on when i open the door or turn off the ignition. The sunroof also will not function. All these items used to work previously when i bought the car. is there an electrical gremlin that connects all these items? i did check the fuses and they are fine. is there a wiring harness that i might have pinched when i jacked up the car under the driver's side suspension?

any help would be greatly appreciated. if anything, i would like to figure out the trouble codes p1618 and p0751. I do know that it suggests the solinoid but im thinking it is the wiring somewhere. Where exactly is the tcm hooked up?

Thanks in advance.

i found the problem for the homelink, dome lights, and sunroof. it appears that one of the modules falls asleep. i cured it by followining instructions that i found on line. it said to lock the doors with the key and then unlock all the doors by turning the key twice. i got in and everything worked again.

but, i still need help with the trouble codes for the tranny. any suggestions?

Thanks

I would start by changing the transmission fluid (search for the 'drain and fill method') and then change the filter. Sometimes it makes a huge improvement, sometimes it doesn't.
