Sometimes i am thinking : " how safety are all Volvo cars ". About month ago a person visited our autoservice . He wanted to bue 960 . And idecided to ask his reasons of buying it . He told me a story about his crash .
This winter his family decided to go to snowbording festival. His wife children and ofcourse he sat to the car and drove there. But this festival was at the village district and it was far from the city . They lost much time and so he must drove faster. The speed was about 65 m/h . On the other side of the road a man on VW Passat suddenly got to his way (his speed was about 70 m/h). And they crashed nose to nose. The speed was really high can you imagine 65+70=......
The driver of Passat died at the moment . And the as for people at 960 they all got alive . Ofcourse they all broke different bones but they all GOT ALIVE. And it is the importenest aspect !
I have never thought that 960 is more safest than VW B5. This Volvo was 10 years old .
The first thing that the owner made after the hospital , he bought 960 for himself and for his wife.
As for me i really give respect to old Volvo cars for engineers who projected it and for all who made it .

Volvo V70 R Manuals are Scarce
Volvo has always been an innovator in safety. It does not surprise me that someone would survive a head-on collision at freeway speeds.
Further, if I have my information correct, Volvo took data from actual crashes and accidents, onsite and used that information to further improve safety. This provided them with real-life empirical data, not just theoretical figures and carefully controlled lab results.
Volkswagen, on the other hand, makes very good cars, but they simply have not had the same commitment to safety that Volvo has.

Volvo is by far the safest car on the road. My brother had a '94 940, that was until he was broad sided by a semi ( 18 wheeler ) going 75. He had four passengers with him, no one was seriously hurt. Even the car looked alright considering.

In a period of 5 years (1989-1994) no-one had died in a car crash in the V.S. in a Volvo 244.
The 240 series has stand for benchmark for crashtests.
