Car Stereo replacement - issues :(

Post by mko »

I switched to an aftermarket car stereo from the stock system originally installed. I purchased the appropriate wire harness & everything is wired properly...

Something is definitely wrong though because:
- only one speaker plays (front-right) and
- the volume is effectively an on-off switch (doesn't adjust the volume)
- and when I play CDs, it's especially noisy (sounds like some radio interference)

OH... there's a spare orange wire on the harness that doesn't have a partner on my stereo... The Stereo is a Blaupunc... I've checked the wiring several times... I checked the fuses, but now the lights are blinking on my Climate Control system.

any help would be appreciated.

thanks.

Hmmm, I have a Kenwood aftermarket headunit in my car. No problems whatsoever with it. Blaupunkt is not exactly known to produce "quality" products, so you may want to look into trying a different head unit and see if it eliminates the problems.

oh :( I see...

so you just plugged yours in & bingo - everything worked? hmm..

I'll definitely have to try a different head unit... this particular one was lost in the mail for 3 months thanks to a faulty zip code :( It worked last time I tried it... could be beat.

thanks.

Have you put the original unit back in to test that the weird symptoms only exist with this new Blaupunkt. If this is the case, then it does sound like you are unlucky with a faulty new radio.

For what it's worth, I have Blaupunkt in two of my cars and I think they're great. Nice design and thusfar very reliable.

yes, that's my next plan... just have to get home to do it.. .i'm also going to try another aftermarket head unit.

thanks.

btw, when the lights on the dash flash - that could be an indication of a blown fuse (correct?)

Here's a wiring diagram:

http://au.geocities.com/ozbrick850/Radi ... ctors.html

Keep in mind that the dash and front door speakers are wired directly to the harness, but the rear deck and rear door speakers are wired in parallel to each other and are 8ohms each.

Code: Select all

Ft. Dash ========> stereo

Ft. Door ========> stereo

R. Deck  ====
            \\
R. Door  ========> stereo
Does that make sense?
