2006 s60 climate control problem

Post by normf »

Had a new ac compressor installed August 2010 after months of problems. AC worked like a champ and on a long trip just got colder and colder. It was a hot summer and I didn't mind. I leave it on 'automatic' at 72 degrees all the time. Probably should have noticed something wrong as it got colder than 72, but Iwas just happy to have AC.

Then when we hit colder weather, the AC just kept overpowering the heat. In fact the only way to get warm was to set the temp to max temp. Took it back to the mechanic who told me the climate control software needed to be reloaded. That seemed to help, works great for about a 1/2 hour and then the AC starts to overpower the heat and it starts getter colder and drops well below the auto setting and keeps going unless I change to max temp manually and then the heat goes thru the roof.

Any ideas on what the problem is?

Could just be the ECC unit itself. Do the REC and AC lights flash when you first turn the heat on?

The temp sensor for car interior is behind those slots on RH side of face of panel. It will be dirty down inside if you look. Try blowing that with one of those canned air things for computer keyboards. The sensor is serviced separately. The best way to diagnose the problem is with VIDA or VADIS where the sensor temps can be read. IF the temp sensor gets biased (reports a temp that is wrong, for your car that would be hotter than actual temp) then the system will not work well in auto mode.

Just double checked that- I'm getting no flashing of the REC or AC lights. Just steady on.
