Radio never asks for Code

Post by J_Guynn »

1998 V70, I just let the car sit with the key in position one for a little over three hours with the radio powered on but it never displays code. The radio has been locked since I purchased the car a few days ago.

Any other tricks besides visiting a real Volvo dealer?

With the key on you can press the power button to get it to toggle between OFF and blank. At just before 6:00 PM yesterday I turned the key to position one and pressed the power button turning the radio from OFF to blank. It sat that way until 9:00 PM. Not once did it show CODE, it just stayed blank. I tried entering the code I was given anyway and still nothing changed...no EEEE or anything.

I'm calling the Carmax guy today to see what they are going to do but I've got family coming into town so I won't be able to get the car back to them until Monday.

It seems my browser has quit logging me in automatically...I'll have to fix that.

With the key on you need the radio to display "off" within about two hours it will switch to code at which time you enter the four digit code .

According to the online users manual at http://www.volvojimfisher.com/pages/own ... .htm#pg141

" After three unsuccessful coding attempts the set will lock and remain locked for two hours.
"OFF" is displayed.

During this waiting period:
. the battery must be connected
. the ignition key must be turned to position I
. the unit must be turned on
Make sure the headlights are turned off to help prevent battery drain (please refer to page 20 for information on turning the headlights off). Enter the code again once this time has elapsed."

The unit turned on means it's not showing OFF...correct?
