Explain the noise. Like metal-metal, metal-pvc, klicking sometimes (when), something like that. I saw "popping/soft clanking noise", but be more detailed.
1. this sounds like displaced brake pad
2. bad mounted/old/broken stop washer (parts 2 and 8 from the pic, mostly 8 ). They are made from rubber and when they are aged are easy to tear.
3. i don't know in english how it's callded but the rubber part used to attach the anti-roll bar to the chassis (there is no number in the pic below, located just below the digit 19). Hope you understood... In case none of these are the reason for the noise, probably something is wrong with the gearbox... I know it's not good news but there is nothing left...
Advice: Remove the tire and play around. Beat around with hand, with wooden piece, with metal piece... just try to locate the sourse of the noise.
Good luck

I have the same problem with a 10yr old S80, 2.4 non turbo, automatic, 116k on clock. Garage couldn't find it and it passed MOT. Tyre wear is even so the tracking isn't affected. I can't work out what it is, but still investigating. If I find it I'll let you know, let me know if you find it!!!

I asked again about the noise at my dealer and was told to wait until next service to have it rechecked. Now it seems like the same noise is coming from all wheel areas. Is there something anyone knows of that goes on the suspension at about 100000 miles? Sounds like it's the same thing happening for all 4.
Just posted again on it...kind of like a clunking, I can relate it to like a creaky floor but in a car. It's got me and the dealer stumped....they say it all looks good...don't see how it can but that's what I'm told. Hard for them to reproduce and they don't have that microphone system that amplifies the sound.yuckuJackD wrote:Explain the noise. I had that same thing on my wagon (2001 V70) and it was the upper spring seat item #6 in the diagram. If you go to the IPD web site you'll see that they sell a heavy duty one it's pretty common thing on the P2 chassis. My wagon had the exact same symptoms smooth on the highway and bumps I would get this knock from the left front and some times the right. I did the upper spring seat and it all went away.
There is a upper spring mount but they rarely go bad? I would just do your front for now and go from there...
Once you get your first problem fixed it's much easier to work your way around (or back) to see if any other repairs are needed.

My clunking noise cames from the front left suspension. Or maybe not!! Couldn't find anything on the suspension but then found that 2 of the engine mounts were perished. Today I replaced the bottom front centre tie bar. It goes from gearbox to the front frame. Rubber had fully perished. Replacing this has greatly reduced the noise. The top rubber engine mounting bush has also failed and I'll replace next week when I've got the part. The two rubber torque rod brackets seem very loose but haven't failed. I may replace depending on the outcome of replacing the top bush (which connects to the torque rod).
