2000 S70 positive camber?

Post by Gatekeeper21 »

So...I replaced my front struts a few months ago and haven't gotten an alignment (I know i should have right away, i have just been slack). I noticed a couple days ago that the outside of my front tires is wearing much faster than the rest of the tires, so I am assuming I have positive camber (the tires look like they may be out a bit more at the top than the bottom, but i haven't actually checked to be certain). My main question, will taking my car to get an alignment correct positive camber? From my understanding, the only thing that will be changed in an alignment with the S70 is the toe. If so, is there anything I can do to correct the camber? I was reading a post a couple days ago that mentioned that you should not torque down the bolts for the struts, control arms, etc. until the car is resting on its own weight. Not knowing at the time, I torqued everything while the car was still in the air. Could loosening the bolts and torquing them down when it is on its own weight help fix the camber?

I have also noticed lately that the car shakes when in third and fourth gears when i am accelerating pretty hard and also more than it used to. Could this be the cause of the shaking as well?

Thanks for any info

Assuming the suspension is the same as the 98, there is no camber adjustment per se. However, I think you can get a small adjustment by doing what you said- loosening the strut bolts and tightening them again with weight on. When I did mine, I just shoved as hard as I could against the struts when I tightened the bolts. That changes very slightly the angle the wheels have with the ground. You can buy offset bolts to replace the stock strut bolts that will allow more adjustment. Also, I've found that I need to keep fairly high pressure in the front tires and this helps with tire wear.

I doubt this has anything to do with shaking.
