Switching to a V70R AWD
I currently own a 95 850 GLT. I am really wanting to get into a turbo wagon. The 1998 V70R AWD have caught my eye. Does anyone have any input on good or bad things mechanically or otherwise to say. Thanks for your comments.
95 850 GLT Wagon 170,000, Mobil-1
94 850 GLT sedan 215,000
86 740 GLE wagon 140,000
Forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead. I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ.

The only thing to keep an eye on besides the normal things like timing belt, etc... would be the AWD system. It is a first gen system which has some real weak links. Make sure all the tires are the same and have the same tread wear. Also make sure nothing in the drive train is leaking or vibrating. Other than that, just make sure the maintenance is up to date and go for it.

I just drove through 14" of snow on the way to work today.
I was the first car out of my neighborhood this morning and
it plowed a nice path for the other folks on my street.
( OK - It does sit kinda low...but hey, that pays off later! )
Punched through it like a Mack Truck.
Tunes were cookin', traction was solid
and my buns were toasty warm!
As mentioned, keep an eye on the AWD. Take care of it and
treat it respectably and it'll take you where you wanna go.
That means equal diameter tires ALWAYS, keep the bevel
gear fluid clean and well sealed up and don't drive it like a
teenager that didn't have to pay for it.
Beadvised that there are previous owners in this world that
may not have gotten the memo, so - Buyer, Be AWARE.
Basically - Just know how it works and pay some attention.
If you know 850's, then you'll know this car.
It just has a few extra nice features!
Keep reading and Good Hunting.

I recently purchased a '98 V70 AWD. It's not an R, but much of the discussion in the link below would still apply:
