2001 S80: electrical? Cluster goes dead, no pwr windows...
I'm baaaaack! after 5 weeks. took the previous advice.......replaced rotors, pads, also tires & new battery, 2-3 weeks ago. now the 2001 S80 (POS), (my wife is threatening to set it afire!!!!!) has another issue. Cluster goes dead, no pwr windows, mirrors, SRS warning light, brake failure(?) warning light, pwr locks only lock w/switch on door, won't unlock, but work fine w/remote FOB. no turn signals. no brights. cluster works a few seconds when first started after being shut off awhile, then everything goes haywire. everything works slightly longer when key is in 'on' position without being started. anyone have any experience or ideas? if it is gonna catch on fire, someone let me know, I will back it out of the garage first!!! thanks. ps. unfortunately, I am an hour away from a volvo dealer, but may find a couple shops with some(little) volvo experience

looked elsewhere on this site,(repair databases), & found the culprit MIGHT be the CEM. almost seems like Volvo is using parts doomed to fail @ 100k + miles! one suggestion is to blow horn to reset. Just called my wife. that didn't work! now she says the blower motor stays on after shutting off the car. what a piece of crap!!! maybe I should give her back the '92 Camry w/206k miles. needs some TLC, but everything works!
Don't worry about the blower motor, it can stay on up to 5 minutes after the car is shut off (normal).
At first your symptoms sounded like a bad ABS module. However, the locks, mirrors, directionals, etc. don't sound like the ABS.
Did you check your battery cables and ground straps? It's a good starting point, if they're corroded or dirty, clean them, or just replace them.
Start there, and check back.

thanks for the response. I figured as much on the blower. my wife has only noticed blower running from outside of the car after it has been driven(in the summer). it usually doesn't blow immediately after shutting off the engine. I just had a new battery installed a few weeks ago, but will get in the trunk to check connections. who knows. hate this car!
