Gentlemen - I need to change the Anti-Roll Bar connecting Link on my 2000 S40. When I looked at the 2 nuts securing the link, I see that each nut seems to have something like a ring type threaded locking device attached to the top of the nut. Do I need to unscrew that prior to taking off the bolt?
Or do I just go for the bolt and and forget this device?
Not sure if I need to address this ring before I try to remove the bolt.
I have attached an image.

Anti-Roll Bar connecting Link nuts, 2000 S40
hi,
i just did this on my '01 s40 this past weekend. i assume the install is very similar, if not exactly the same:
saturate the nut/bolt with wd40 and let it sit a while. use a 15mm open end wrench to loosen the nut. you'll have to use an allen wrench to hold the center of the bolt, or else the whole thing will just turn and you'll never get anywhere. if you can't get it to move (which was the case on one of the upper bolts on my car), take a blow torch to it for a few minutes to get the bolt to expand; then it should be pretty easy to unscrew.
once the upper and lower bolts are off, you'll need to use a large screwdriver or a pry bar to hold down the sway bar while you remove the end links.
install is just the reverse.... just be certain to hold the sway bar down with your pry bar while you're tightening the bolts or you won't get them seated properly.
let me know if you have any questions.
