850 Engine stopping inmiddle of traffic

Post by poroman »

Hi, I have a 95 model 850 sedan. My cars engine cuts out in the middle of traffic. It does it from time to time not all the time. I wait a few minutes then it starts up like nothing happened. I did the code/self diagnosis and came up with a code of -
141 in A3 Sect (ABS) FAULTY PEDAL SENSOR. Would this be cause to my problem?? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks again. Michael

The ABS code will not cause the car to stall, at worst it will light up the ABS light and disable the ABS system. Is the stalling at all temperature related? When the fuel pump relay starts to die it will often get quite intermittent and it will often fail more often as the ambient temperature either gets warmer or colder. We seem to have a spate of problems posted every year as we move into fall as you are now doing down under.

The next time it stalls, if it is safe, check the fuel pressure at the schrader valve on the end of the fuel rail. It is the valve with the blue cover over it. If you have no fuel pressure then chances are the relay is going bad.

My guess would also be on the fuel pump relay. I've never had it happen to my car, but that used to stop my Saab dead in its tracks in stop and go traffic - not a fun situation when it wouldn't restart for 10 minutes.

Of course when we took it into the shop, it would run again - every time!

how do I check the fuel pressure on the rail? How do I check if its the fuel pump relay is faulty? could there be any other causes? Thanks and look forward to your invaluable help
