Oil analysis
We have a 2004 S60. We had an oil analysis done at 76,800 miles in September 2010 and the results showed a little high on sodium. We changed the oil again in Feb 2011 and the results came back "critical" 4.9 % fuel. Between the 2 oil changes only 800 miles had been put on the car. Oil analysis was done by Polaris labs. My husband is wondering about adding an injector cleaner. Anyone have any thoughts on this, what could be causing this, etc. Thanks

The cleanliness of the injectors is the best place to start . Try Tecron fuel injector cleaner.
The other possibility is poor quality control of the oil you are using. May seem obvious but did the lab check for sodium in the same batch of new oil that went into your crankcase first?
Is the car using oil? This is unlikely at this mileage but if so you may have some severely worn piston rings.

Hello, Why did you do a oil analysis?
CHANGE ..fuel filter, air filter change once a year, oil/filter 3/5K, flush all fluids ie: brake, steering, coolant.
I bought my 2003.V70.2.4T@ 48K and started using Mobil 1, ANY synthetic will do[ imho]

You can use an injector cleaner to see if the injector is kept open due to contamination. I would start with a fuel pressure test and watch the pressure after shutdown. You can always pull the fuel rail and pressurize it and see which is leaking if that is the case.
Fuel burns so if this is outside your mechanical/safety skills then put it in front of someone who can handle it safely.
The fuel levels can be high if the car is only used for very short trips but if the oil is 4.9% fuel by volume then you likely have a leaking injector.
If you need to buy a new set I have found this man to be extraordinary. http://www.fiveomotorsport.com/

Thanks....We do use Mobil 1 and change the oil regularly. All maintenance is done.....This is the car I drive and yes, it is short trips. I work 3 miles from home, so between work and grocery, etc. it gets very little miles and the car only runs for about 15 minutes at a time. We will try the injector cleaner first and then go from there. Thanks again.
