springs seats or something else 2006 Volvo S60 T5

Post by traveler »

I have a 2006 S60 T5 with 50073 miles. I drive on regular roads but where I live they can be fairly bumpy. I have a loud popping noise when I go over bumps and sometimes when turning. I can hear it on both sides of the car but mainly on the drivers side. I understand this could be several issues but the spring seats seem to be the most likely. The car does not seem to be affected while steering, it may have a very very minor loss of response when turning right, hard to be sure.
If I take this to a local mechanic and purchase an OEM part should I get the part for the S60 or another model of Volvo?
How much should I expect to pay for parts and labor?

Check out iPD or FCP (top of this web site) for parts. Labor a local shop will most likely will bill you two hours plus about $60 or so for an alignment.

IPD has a proprietary upgraded part that has a terrific track record for cars that have broken several of the OEM and other spring seats. It costs more but in the long run it probably is way cheaper if you're paying to have the work done.
It could also be the sway bar links, they give the car a case of the clunks but link problem seems to be more an issue of clunks/knocks on small bumps.
