Anti skid service message - V50 '05

Post by lorry33 »

Hi everyone,

This is my first posting on here, after reading some previous posts regarding the 'anti skid service' message i started to get really confused.

I have a V50 2005 model with 114k, 2 weeks ago this message popped up on the display and the DTDC button appears not to be working either although the light on the button itself works but no message on display when on or off.

Not sure if this is related or not, during our heavy snow storm before and after christmas i did get into a spot of bother from some icey roads where it took lots of attempts to get up a slight hill (lots of reving and skidding), we live on a farm and the local lanes must have had at least a foot of snow maybe more in places and the V50 did struggle in sticking to any tarmac we could find.

Anyway now the weather is warmer I'm now wondering if the ABS Module has some cracked solder joints????
Aslo have lots and lots of MUD...very thick mud.

I have had all wheels off and cleaned hubs and surrounding areas incase of any dirt near the wheel sensors

any suggestions would be appreciated

Many thanks

Reason: Changed this "ANTI SKID SERVICE MESSAGE !!!!!!!!" into this "Anti skid service message - V50 '05". Isn't that more pleasant?

THIS IS ONLY A GUESS, codes being read from car is the wisest way to find the problem.
The seal on front wheel bearing contains the sensor read surface. If the seal seizes to the fixed part of bearing or if the bearing moves over in spindle opening, the speed won't be able to be read and the ABS and traction functions shut down and you get the message.
It could be many other things too. Only code readout will tell you.

Hi,
I had this message a while ago on my 2006 S40. The issue turned out to be a brake module fault that Volvo knew about. They replaced the unit free of charge even though the car was out of warranty.

Hello every one
Hope this reply is not to late but this problem is common on v50. The problem is bad connection into the brain of the car which is located just above the passenger foot well below the carpet. Place a plastic cable tie on all the connections into this control unit and this will solve all problems. Volvo know of this problem as i was informed of the repair by volvo engineer.

Hope this helps as it fixed my 05 v50 after volvo quoted £450 just to diagnose the problem
Have had no trouble since

Regards
