Service light comes on car dies and goes off.

Post by heckler »

I've had the mass flow code for a few weeks now. I just replaced my fuel relay and pump and now I'm curious if I should just go ahead and change the mass flow air sensor or do I have another issue? The car will run rough when I first start it, but not always. When it does the service light comes on. After a short period of running the service light goes off. My check engine light has been on for a while, but even it still goes on and off, but mostly its on.

Curious if anyone has any experience with the above issue. The code that I've had for a few weeks is this P0102 MOD $17 which I've read the tutorial, but I'm curious if my car dieing (its happened once, but has a tendency to sputter when first started) is a related issue or a completely separate one.

Once I have all these running issues taken care of I'm going SPEC-0 and then performance

If you're getting a MAF code, you probably need to just replace the sensor. You can try cleaning it first - then you've only spent about $3 if it works again, but there's no telling if it will work or not.

Don't use an aftermarket one from a parts store. It won't work. You need a genuine Bosch or Volvo replacement.

The service light is only there to remind you of an oil change. Learn to ignore it or yank the bulb out. Some people buy a $100 tool to reset the thing - I see no point.

A learning experience is one of those things that says, "You know that thing you just did? Don't do that."
