1999 S80 2.9 Trans Prob. Will Not Start

Post by rlwilson »

I bought a great condition 99 S80 2.9 non turbo 92k last week that was throwing codes for Trans. Solenoid failure and going into limp mode after 30 miles or so. I replaced all 4 shift solenoids according to the writeup on this site. changed trans filter / motor oil / spark plugs. tear down and replace went well trans fluid looked burnt so I was not extremely hopeful... Drove car for test drive and shifted irradicaly as before went 6 miles up the road and on the way back it would not go above 2nd gear I pulled over and restarted and it would shift to 4th then would not go above 2nd ( seemed like it was in nuteal above 40mph) I pulled over 1/4 mile from the house to restart and it made a strange noise on shutdown and would not start again. towed home when I try to start it seems locked up starter hits but nothing happens. could the torque converter be locked keeping the flywheel from moving? I am at a loss... any Ideas... I don't see how the motor could have blown up (it was running fine)...
