Need help and advice

We have a 1991 volvo stationwagon. The SRS light came on and then the spedometer went wacky then the car died. We found out that the alternator was bad and changed it. The car ran fine for about a month, then it happened again, and then a third time. Can anyone tell me what is going on here? What else could be wrong with it? What should we check? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. We really like this car.
