04' S80 Front End noise

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

04' S80 Front End noise

Post by Tunnaman88 »

I recently purchase a 2004 S80 with 80k miles and imediately had it gone through by our mechanic. He said it was a " Great Car" and couldn't find anything wrong with it, except an oil change. I aasked him to check all front end coponents out, and he still came up with nothing. Today i was driving and i noticed when i was stoped at a "t" intersection, when i turned right and accellerated i heard a pop/bang... like it was ball joint or something. It happened twice when taking a right turn on a slight decline(no level turn). Now i just had it looked at bout 1000k miles, and they couldn't find anything. Does anybody have any insight?

My son has a 'bang/creak' sound on his 94 850 but I think it has to do with the frame and/or strut from a possible fender bender by the previous owner. Only happens when he turns sharply i.e. with steering wheel turned full over. It drives fine and doesn't seem to have uneven tire wear. I think it only happens when he turns full left or right. Don't remember which....
Your pop type noise might be from a worn CV joint. That is the only type of noise that I have seen referred to as a pop noise on this forum. Have never had that type of problem on any of my vehicles so can't refer to personal experience.

Did it seem to momentarily loose drive? If it did Transmission fluid level is likely low.
Way to encourage people to help with your "drag" comment by the way.

5cyl, thanks for your input! i am thinking it may be somthing to do with the strut mount bushing? maybe. i hear it when there is load / compression on the strut. its not loud, or ofen. it just comes when i am going slow out of a parking garage and make the turn out of the garage and the driving surfaces are at different degrees/angle.

i haven't. my s80 should hit 90k by summers end. i am going to do the timing belt then(early) and i will have my machanic look at it then. he dove it when i first got it and he didnt notice it. I may buy one of those suspension kits that has all 4 struts, springs and seating, control arm link ends, and just do it all and see what happens. i firmly believe its the strut mount or spring seating, but i am no mechanic by any means, i can just turn a wrench and follow instructions

seems like a completer front end solution spring seats and strut mounts are common creatures that fail
