Extreme Braking Vibrations on my 2002 v70-xc
Extreme Braking Vibrations on my 2002 v70-xc
I replaced my front brake pads and rotors last summer. Over the last several months I have had an increasing braking vibration when ever I brake from 30MPH +. I took it to a garage and they told me it was my rotors and they were too wore to turn (but I had just changed them
). I didn't have them changed and am looking into it myself. I first took the drivers side tire off and inspected. I immediately found that the bottom caliper bolt had completely backed off (loose and not engaged in the thread at all). I tightened this and all the other bolts (none of which were loose) and took it for a test drive. Vibrations still there. Next I took off the passengers side tire (which had been put on with extremely high torque i might add) and inspected for loose bolts. I found one of the caliper frame bolts a little loose but not seriously. Again I put the tire back on and took it for a drive and of course the vibration was still there. Next I went to MVS to look through threads and found many with different issues. My biggest question is how do I know what is causing the vibration. I know it could be warped rotors, but it also sound like it could be the rear delta link bushing. If it was the rear would I be able to recreate the vibrations using the E-brake? Would the rear rotors give me the same feeling as the front rotors? What would be the best course of action to take first?

Not delta link as your car does not have the same suspension in rear.
Is the vibration a steering wheel shake or a vibration felt in whole car with no strong feedback in steering wheel?
Whole car is rear and steering wheel shake is front. As a guide anyway, not a wholly conclusive test.
If it is front then the loose bolts in brakes or the irregularly tightened wheel bolts may have created a wear pattern on the front rotors that will require that they be replaced or machined to true them again.
Many things can cause vibration while braking and a worn steering part can contribute to vibration.
