enlighten me on two sizes of front rotors?

I'm going to do brakes on a family members XC90...it's a 2007 with 3.2L engine. When I search parts on several suppliers sites they show (sometimes) two different diameter rotors! Did they shift mid-season or is this different from V8 to 6 or another option?

The vehicle is not near me and I'm hoping I don't have to make a long trip just to pull a wheel and measure the rotors...and her doing it is not an option.

Is there anyway to figure this out from 20 miles away?

I had the same issue on my '04 XC90. I took the wheel and rotor off, and it was stamped on the inside portion of the "hat" of the rotor (316mm).

But, in your case, I would get the VIN number and call the dealership. They should be able to tell you the size that is on there. If not, you have two less attractive options: buy both rotor sizes, send the wrong size back after you do the job, or drive down there and pull a wheel off

Thanks, I like the VIN idea.

So from what we can tell there is no rhyme or reason to the rotor selection? Just whatever was on the floor that day at the factory?

316mm, 316 and 335 are the choices on 2007 and V8's get the big ones.

It might be worth it...his answers are spot on even for questions nobody else touched for days. Volvo tech or just been around the garage to long? As he's answered questions across models.
