There is a small hose that comes across the top of the engine, and snakes its way down between the intake ports of the intake manifold. Well mine is broken. What is this hose and what does it do? Could it be the culprit for sluggish performance?

Part of the PCV / breather box system and it must be replaced ASAP
Yes it can eventually do some fairly major damage
Weird, 3rd one this week that has broken/collapsed (same hose)
