2001 v70 XC Struts

Post by rdhart »

I purchased a 2001 V70 XC last week. I took it in for new tires. The front tires were worn on the inside all the way around and through the belt in one place. They installed new tires and couldn't allign it. The lady who owned it had struts installed by a local mechanic and the front alligned afterwards in January at the same Firestone store. She had no idea that the tires were ready to blow until I told her. In January the record shows that they couldn't allign it then. The tires are tilted in at the top so that there is no way to get it all out by allignment. It is very obvious by eye. I talked with the man who installed the struts. He thinks that he used Volvo struts. Can anyone tell me what the problem might be and how to fix it? Can the struts be installed wrong? Is there any way to adjust them so the wheels stand up correctly? Please help! Thanks

I would be asking WHY they felt that they could not align it. As far as I know, there are elongated holes in the struts that allow for camber adjustment. Unless something is bent, adequate adjustment should be possible.

Two shops think that something is wrong with the strut installation that caused this problem since it was alright before. On another post a man thinks the strut springs are not seated properly. I am taking it to another shop in the morning. He looked at it and noticed a gap in the top mounting part that he thinks may be a problem. Thanks
