02 V70 XC battery

Post by marvin46917 »

The battery on my 02 V70 XC keeps draining, especially if it sits for a long amout of time. If I jump the car it starts right up but the battery will not hold a charge. Is there an affordable aftermarket battery that I can get? And is this a vented battery and is the vent necessary. Please excuse my ignorance, but I am not that familiar with Volvo.

It is far more likely that something is staying on and drawing current from battery and killing it rather than a faulty battery.
The fact you jump it and it starts readily and is OK unless it sits for a long period would say the battery is probably OK.

Cool. After looking at some other posts, I bfound that my "afterblow system" is staying on. Do you know how to disconnect it?

DO you mean the fan stays on immediately after the key is turned to off position?
Afterblow is the climate fan coming on 45 min after ignition is switched off after a period of use with a/c on that qualifies.
Fan remaining on is usually not the afterblow staying on.
Afterblow is software feature in climate system. It takes a capable scan tool to change the settings.

No, it comes back on later, but it does not shut off until the battery is dead. So I am guessing that this is something for a dealership?

Could removing a fuse related to the fan verify that it is indeed the fan draining your battery?
