I have a 94 850 non-turbo with over 200,000(odometer's broken) that has given me trouble starting and charging since I bought it. About a year and a half ago I replaced the alternator and battery and soon after I replaced the starter while I changed the PCV system. Within the last year I've also replaced the fuel pump(relay as well), distributor cap, wires, and plugs.
Last week the alternator and the battery were dead again(both were tested and failed). This time when replacing the alternator and battery I inspected the ground which looked fine but I decided to install an additional ground just in case. Afterwards it ran and started fine with 12.2 volts across the batt terminals while running, which my book says is low. I let it sit for 2 days while I road my motorcycle and last night it wouldn't start, it simply clicks as if the starter is dead, and all the interior lights are still as bright as ever.
My next idea is the ignition system since the starter is only a year old and cost me $200. Could all the madness with the charging system have affected my starter? Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks
Rob
850 starting issues, I've replaced almost everything
your cable is likely bad: the starter cable
search voltage drop and look for the link to the volvo charging system evaluation from service manuel. It say to start off checking the cables.
