Had sunroof open, left switch on, battery ran down.
Recharged battery, started engine, everything fine, but sunroof is now unresponsive.
Also seemed to have lost power to reading lights in overhead console, and vanity lights in both visors. It appears all of this electrical enters through wires at the top of the rear view mirror where the mirrow connects to the roof.
Checked power at related fuses in fuse panel and all are good. Overhead courtesy lights (not reading lights) in overhead are working as they should and come on when the doors are opened.
Question:
1. What can I do to run down where the power is disconnected or how can I restore it?
And,
2. Is there a way I can close the sunroof manually to keep rain and dust out until I can get this repaired.
Thanks.

I'm not sure what's going on with your circuitry, but I believe there is a printed circuit board in the control unit under behind the light panel. You can pop off the two lenses, take out two torx screws that hold the plastic panel up and there you will see your sunroof motor and its control box. I suggest pulling the harness connector and see if there's power coming to the female part. if so, you might have damage to the control box. In the Minneapolis area, those are pretty easy to find in a junk yard, along with intact, working sunroofs (I have replaced the whole sunroof panel in my '93 850—twice). Around here they sell the whole thing for about $29.00. If you're in this area I can tell you where there are two Volvos (2001 V70 & 2002).
Look here:http://www.upullrparts.com/prices (check their "Inventory")
There is supposed to be a way to crank the glass closed. Apparently new 850's came with a T-handle driver of some sort that you could insert vertically in the motor shaft and turn it closed. You might call a dealer on Monday to find out more. If you have rain coming cut a sheet of plastic (drop cloth from a hardware story will do). Duct tape to one side, trim and tape around the perimeter to keep it dry. Emergency fix: If it's already wet up there, just quickly cut a strip, drape it across your roof and close it in the top of both doors.
Remember: anything is fixable. Good luck

Read this tread carefully. It may be related to your problem.

Thanks, DGM, for directing me to that thread. It was very detailed and helpful.
Before I take all of the time to see if my alarm module has a problem, is there a way to test the alarm/siren to see if it is working properly?
Also, just discovered that my door locks switch does not work. Cannot lock or unlock doors with remote either.
Does that door lock issue provide additional clues to the problem? It is the first, non overhead(sunroof, vanity lights, reading lights) issue I've encountered since this happened.
Thanks, again.

Found a solution!
I was unable to recycle to door locks with the buttons on the armrests because those buttons were dead.
However, I put the key in the door and did 3 cycles of locked/unlocked and now everything works as it should!!!!!!! Sunroof, vanity lights, reading lights, door locks all working as they should. I'm assuming the low battery and/or the recharge was the cause of the disabling.
This is a great site. Thanks for your help. I'm sure I will be a regular as this is my first Volvo.

Ninearrow: I replaced fuse #38 which was in the left dashboard panel (open driver door to see end of panel). The extra fuse is located there as well. Sunroof worked perfectly but still have problem with "alarm system service required" which for some reason is related. But at least the sunroof works!
I have a 2001 S60 t5, every option but Navigation. it was stolen and recovered recently but the miscreants removed and cut the wires to the rear view mirror. Now, of course, the security system, the keyless remote, the overhead interior lights, and the sunroof, which was left open part way, do not operate.
I'm mostly concerned about the sunroof at the moment. Can i close it manually for now?
any suggestions would great.
Merry Christmas!

Curious minds want to know ... what does this procedure do .. and is it documented anywhere?ninearrow wrote:However, I put the key in the door and did 3 cycles of locked/unlocked and now everything works as it should!!!!!!!
