Disable daytime running headlights in S40 T5 2005

Post by jlrs40t52005 »

:shock: I bought my volvo S40 T5 AWD on saturday 6/4/2005 and noticed the daytime running lights always on with the head switch in position 0. My car came with xenon lights in the low beams and std bulbs in the hi beams. I live in Puerto Rico and the country local laws does not require this feature to be active in the cars. I will like to know how can i disable this feature in the car if possible. I dont have the elect wiring diagram to trace the cables. Help me on this please...

Is there a micro screw-switch on the light switch panel? Many (most?) 850s have this. The small screw turns on/off the DRL feature.
Help keep MVS on the web -> click sponsors' links here on MVS when you buy from them.

Also -> Amazon link

Hi Matthew1. I have checked the switch over and over and there is no small screw to disconnect the xenon lights. Actually there is only the harness connector and wires that go to the switch. Also i have checked this issue in other volvo forums and they suggest me to take it to the dealer since the disable process is via computer software, and they can perform it. My local dealer does not perform this operation because it can cause the computer to loose the factory programming in other circuits. So here i am in cached 22 with the xenon lights allways on during the day. Is there any wire in the switch that can be cut to get the same results? Let me know...

I don't know enough about S40s to tell you where to go from here.

Perhaps try Volvo parts dealers (including my sponsor, MySwedishParts.com) to find out if there's a S40 part number for a light switch that does have a microswitch to disable DRL.

That is about all I can suggest.

North American bound Volvos are programed (N)- wich imparts an open circut, though slighty les amps, to the low beam on zeon equiped vehicles.
This feature can only be changed with a re-program- I not sure what the dealer was talking about, when he said it would damage his computer equipment, it's design to do this. That said, why would you want to? This feature has proven to save on collisions, it has a virtually no effect on energy/wear and tear on the vehicle, but could save your life. I'd leave it on.
